Why runner rugs are called so? Well, the only possible reason that I can think of is that the rugs run a long distance in length. That is a reason why it could be called a runner rug. Of course, why the rug is called a particular rug is an academic question. As long as it performs its job properly and as long as your house looks good, who cares what it is called.

Runner rugs are normally used in long and narrow spaces which receive a lot of traffic. Staircase, court yards – these are two places where runner rugs are used very often. You can either go in for wall to wall carpeting or you can go in for the traditional style where the rug sits in the middle even as the floor is visible on both sides.

If you are using runner rugs on staircases, it is obvious that you will have to make sure it provides a lot of friction and does not permit you to slide. Going in for rough rugs will be a smart move because you will not slip even if you are wearing high heels or any uncomfortable footwear.

If you have kids at home, you will have to pay special attention to these rugs because kids walk and run very fast. The last thing you want is for them to trip over the rug and fall down the staircase.

You can go in for a single color sober looking runner rug for the entire stretch. Or, you can go in for smaller rugs or can cut the rug into smaller pieces so that the pattern is different. Or, you can go in for those rugs that have twin borders with a uniform single colors stretch down the middle. Needless to say, there are numerous options available in the market.

If you are going in for runner rug for your courtyard, you will have to keep in mind that each and every person visiting your house will probably walk over it. Further, chance of wet boots being wiped on the rug is very high. You may be in a position to ensure the rugs in your drawing room do not suffer this treatment.

Yet, the stretch that connects the porch to the drawing room will always suffer a lot of wear and tear. It is advisable to go in for sturdy and good quality rugs that will give you good value for money. Going in for too expensive or too delicate runner rugs is not a smart move
